Capable Hands

Recent works: commercial, office, residential and public spaces

Saez Residence Home Office

My client and I collaborated to design this dividing wall feature for her open loft apartment. When COVID required her to work to work from home she needed a more defined office space. We developed a plan that maintained the abundant natural light throughout the home. This simple feature functioned as an elegant office wall and enviable zoom background.

Google Alza Campus Lounge Refresh

This permeable wall consists of 55 ash plywood boxes suspended between the floor and ceiling, defining a walkway between conference rooms and an employee lounge. The box parts were all CNC cut, assembled and finished then hung in the grid using slimline griplock turnbuckles and stainless steel cable.

Bellwether Coffee, Berkeley Offices

The design team at One Hat One Hand developed a stunning array of feature pieces for this company’s new office space. The client’s and architect’s exacting standards required each piece fit in exactly the right place. My installation team was given very little tolerance to work with and we nailed each and every connection with ease and smiles.

Salumbides Residence Bay Window Storage Bench

My client came to me with basic but very clear drawings of what she wanted. With these simple plans in hand I set about building the storage bench of her dreams. I’m still waiting on photos of the painted and upholstered final version but I think you can get the idea. It really is a joy to help my clients achieve their goals and free up mental space to enjoy their homes so much more.

Spiral Staircase and Enclosure, Private Residence British Virgin Islands (Ongoing)

This project is currently 4 years in the making. I have been working closely with the design team at One Hat One Hand and the client’s architects to develop processes and strategies for fabrication, assembly, delivery and installation of this woven wooden enclosure and spiral staircase. All wooden parts are CNC cut ipe with programmable LED strips embedded and covered with plasticized bamboo veneer. It has taken 2 trips of 3 weeks each once the containers arrived on the island to get to this stage in the build. We are currently in process scheduling the last trip to finalize the installation. Projected end date September 2021

Chime Public Musical Instrument, San Francisco

This project came about as a collaboration with the city of San Francisco planning department and several community partners to increase engagement with public spaces and pedestrian access on Market Street. I designed built and installed this musical instrument that generates bell chimes when the outer panel walls are pressed. It is constructed of Alaskan yellow cedar and 4” steel conduit bells.

Acrylic Shields, Various Locations, San Francisco

Homeless shelters and unemployment benefit dispersal sites across San Francisco needed protective shields in place to reopen and provide services to their clientele. I designed and installed modular units that met their requirements for safely accepting in office appointments.
