Chime is a multi-player percussion instrument for public use. Steel tube chimes sound when the outer panels are pressed activating pendulum mallets inside. Crowd sourced melodies and lively interactions arise in the public space at a Chime installation. This work has undergone several phases, featured at San Francisco’s Market Street Prototyping Festival in 2015 & 2016, Palo Alto’s Civic Plaza, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and downtown Houston.
CHIME
Public Projects
B is a set of three tube chimes within a tunnel for public interaction. Each station held a chime, striking mallet and light source. These instruments served as places where the public could engage in spontaneous music making and gathering spaces. Live bands were invited to perform every weekend in conjunction with this public music sculpture.
B was developed in conjunction with Illuminate for the Arts as further activation of the illumination of the Conservatory of Flowers. This installation took place in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, 2017.
